Browns Beach Hotel

“We stayed at Browns Beach for two weeks on an all inclusive basis at the end of April/beginning of May. We were a little apprehensive about the hotel after reading the reviews on here but had a wonderful stay. The reception staff were very welcoming and showed us to our room which was quite basic but had a lovely view”

“Staff at Browns Beach I have to say were very very helpful happy and friendly with the exception of most of the “front desk” staff. There I’m afraid is where all positive comments end. We stayed in a damp smelling beach hut/chalet with the dirtiest bed side rugs ever seen. The bathroom had only partly been tiled the shower holder “

“Have stayed at this hotel many times but restaurent service has declined. Little attention to detail. Tables not cleared. ‘Hot’ buffet food often cold. Frequently run out of essential items – no coffee for 45 minutes one morning. Staff not bothered. General manager shows no interest. Wine watered down one evening. Very loud music in beach bar at night. TV”

“We upgraded to beach room when we arrived as standard rooms are very tired dirty and pillows and mattress disgusting!! Food at the Hotel not to bad we ate at Coconut Primitive accross the road most nights (great service from Calum) very cheap. Beach sellers a real pain Staff at Browns Beach are superb they are always smiling and extremely”

“We stayed at this so called Browns Beach “Guest House” in Negombo in the beginning of this month and had one of the most awful holidays ever for ourselves. Though the location is perfect the guest rooms and the public guests contacts were not really acceptable for a hotel. They have their own Housekeeping Manager who do not even bother”

“We stayed at this hotel in May 2008 for 12 nights. When we arrived the check in was good and quick given a cold dink and then shown to our rooms. Disappointed with the first room as very basic and in need of updating. We were then shown another room and was slighlty better. The following day we upgraded to”

“After reading some of the reviews on here I was a little wary however for anyone considering booking this hotel go ahead it is just fine. We stayed in the Beach Bungalow rooms and they are perfect – modern furnishings very clean and a beautiful location. They have there own sun loungers outside and chairs and table on your”

“We have just returned from our 9days holiday in Browns Beach Hotel. From our travel agency we had paid for a Standard room in the main building. As I have read the reviews on this page I expected it a bit but to be honest it was really disaster – I would never take a shower in the bathroom of”

“We spent 2 weeks at Browns Beach in March 09 The hotel was so convenient for the airport because after a 10 -11 hour flight we didn’t want a long transfer. We thoroughly enjoyed everything about our stay from the lovely beach to the calm warm sea. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we met some really nice”

“I am writing on behalf of my sister who stayed at Browns Beach last year and had a fantastic time. So much so I went back with her this year to Sri Lanka we were lucky to contact Prince Perrera who my sister had met last year he has a mini bus recommended by the hotel and is extremely helpful “

“wonderful quiet location out of the hustle and bustle of Kandy but walking distance to everything. Views over the town and lake are brilliant. Massive rooms which looked unchanged since the 1930’s. Watch the fruit bats at sunset but use insect repellant. Highly recommended more “

“Just returned from a fanastic honeymoon spent in Sri Lanka and Maldives. During our first week in Sri Lanka we spent 2 nights at the Castle Hill Guest House and loved every minute of it. The owner is lovely – very welcoming and friendly and happy to chat to you about what to see and do in the Kandy area…. “

“Having a friend of mine who wanted to stay several days in the hill capital i had a look for a nice place to stay there. Dunno why it was queens which came up first but when trying to make a reservation found out that they were full (yes they were) we had to go for another option. We tried”

“Beautiful art deco building with fab views over Kandy. The rooms are huge and comfortable but the bathrooms were dirty and shabby which was a real shame. It is worth staying just for the location though and far better than staying in central noisy Kandy. Beware the sausage dogs they are very fierce. more “

“We really enjoyed our stay at Castle Hill. The hotel has a very faded glory with vast rooms. Our bedroom was enormous with four beds a table and chairs and an eclectic collection of huge antique bedroom furniture. The bathroom was ancient dimly lit with towels grey from overuse but it was all clean with plenty of hot water. The”

“After a terrible 2 nights stuck at the Queens Hotel (see review) with food poisoning acquired in Colombo we decided to get out of this colonial — and ran for the hills. “I stayed at Camelot Beach Hotel for just 1 night. After a long flight from Melbourne Australia I was delighted with the room it was clean fresh and very comfortable. “CBH is my choice when it comes to staying in Negombo at low prices but still getting good quality for money. “If you think of Sri Lanka one thinks of white beaches palm trees blue ocean en serenity. Bot not in Camelot. Sure the beach is white the indian ocean blue and there are loads of palm trees. But there was also this 24/7 noise of bad popmusic in the open air bar and badly attempted amusement (magician show disco etc.)…. “

“Despite being a relatively modern hotel with two nice swimming pools it is not the place to stay if you wish a relaxing beach holiday. The reason is that music (mostly country and western) is blaring all the time and there is nowhere near the pools or on the grounds where you can escape it for reading or relaxing. Even”

“During our 13th visit to Sri Lanka we stayed at the Camelot for the 1st time. It is a rather small hotel but with very friendly staff. The rooms are okay though the bathroom could do better. The toilet seat made out of wood is very uncomfortable(square). The surroundings are very pretty and the hotel and grounds are exceptionally well maintained…. “

“We stayed two nights while touring. The hotel is well positioned just outside Kandy and by the side of the river. The bar area overlooks the swimming pool and river and a drink there before dinner feels very decadent. The rooms were large with nice bathrooms and balcony overlooking the river. “As the hotel claims-Sweeping green hills the longest river in the country misty mornings and the fresh outdoors are just a few things that naturally come together here to make the perfect holiday. “We were put in this hotel at the last minute and we were really pleased the hotel and staff are fantastic a really lovely location over looking the wide and busy river the pool area is very nicely set out. “Good quality hotel in an excellent situation away from the city noise & pollution but near enough for access. Staff were friendly without being obsequious. Room was about average for a resort hotel but it was clean and looked well cared for. Only downside for us was the number of big tour groups. more “

“My husband and I have just returned from a tour in Sri Lanka spending time in Habarana Kandy and Beruwela. The Chaaya Citadel was amazing. “Chaaya Citadel in Kandy was the first hotel we stayed in on our six days tour in Sri Lanka. The location was very nice by the river but you had to get there by a narrow road long about 7.5 km so if you want hotel just as a base for your trips you might appreciate more closer location then”

“The location is lovely set on a hillside and looking down over the river. The staff are excellent – very friendly and helpful. The food is also very good for a buffet. It has been quiet all year at the hotel which is fine if you are just looking to relax. The rooms are very modern clean and have all”

“We stayed in 5 hotels in Sri Lanka in September 2008. The lack of tourists is affecting them all badly. With the hotels running at what seemed to be 25% capacity it can seem a bit quiet. Business seems better at weekends. In Sri Lanka more than anywhere else I have been the vast majority of staff were excellent; helpful “

“The Chaaya Citadel is a comfortable western style hotel on the outskirts of Kandy with views over the river. The location is peaceful but you are only a short drive from Kandy’s centre providing the best of both worlds. The rooms were well equipped clean and comfortable and I had a pleasant view over the river. The restaurant serves both”
