Restaurant 1886 is the smaller of two restaurants located at the Sofitel
Winter Palace.  Luxury on a grand scale, formal dress code – tie and jacket
is a must for men and smart dress for ladies.  If you want to splash out
and have an unforgettable evening this is the place to go.  A night you
will always remember, the only Luxor restaurant with exquisite surroundings and
an extensive a la carte menu (French cuisine) will ensure this is a night to
remember.  Prices are reasonably high by Egyptian standards but modest for
this calibre of restaurant when compared to European prices.  Starting at
around 500-600LE for a meal and drinks for two, excellent value.

“People come to this restaurant to have Silver Service and you have to dress accordingly, i.e. men require a jacket & tie. Some people may feel uncomfortable in that sort of environment Silver Service is not like eating at Macdonalds – It can be a slow process. The food is good and freshly cooked. The idea is not to wolf… more “

“A beautiful room with dress code (jacket & tie) and limited covers (booking essential) – service was slow and we drank a bottle of wine whilst waiting for the starters! Food was ok but nothing outstanding – egyptian wine priced well but imported wines exorbitant. more “

We first tried this Luxor restaurant 3 years ago, on returning last week we
were delighted to see their food and service was still of the same high
standard.  Glad to see they still had the lovely potato skins and garlic
mayonnaise on the menu.  We followed this with Beef Shwarma and my partner
had a steak in a delicious tomato sauce.  Very accommodating, chef did us a
special salad not listed on the menu even though the restaurant was fairly busy.
This Luxor restaurant is licensed and served a reasonable red and white wine at
half the price you can expect to pay back in your hotel.  Whilst not the
cheapest restaurant in Luxor, the food was of a high standard and therefore
value for money.  Two starters and 2 main courses together with a bottle of
wine came to 185LE around the £20 mark.  Well worth adding to your list of
Luxor restaurants to visit.

A Taste Of India Luxor

Wow, this restaurant certainly lives up to it’s name.  An extensive menu
and faultless food.  I started with the chicken tikka which was tasty and
moist, followed by Tandori King Prawns and a delicious naan bread, my partner
opted for the chicken tikka masala with rice.  The restaurant itself was
smart and clean. The service quick and the waiters attentive.  The bill for
1 starter, 2 mains, 2 side dishes and 2 chilled beers came to an incredible
175LE, not bad considering I’d had the king prawns.  I can certainly
recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for some decent Indian food.

“The two young lads on waiter service work very hard in this restaurant. The meal was very good and value for money. go here if you want an authentic Indian currie or English type meal. Highly recommended. more “

“This restaurant is beautifully lit and decorated-very romantic. The music was soft and well-chosen. A chilled glass and the local Stella (not the Artois sort!) is very welcome after a sweltering day. I stuck to curry but my husband had a steak one evening and loved it. The dupiaza is lovely but the ceylon, particularly, the king prawn one, is… more “

“I visit Luxor on a regular basis. Every time I visit, the Taste of India is a must. Love the food, love the service and have never had a bad meal. If you go later in the evening when the rush has died down then Russel, the owner, has time to sit and have a drink and a chat with… more “

“went to this restaurant in august 2019. the word bland sprang immediately to mind. all the dishes were just plain and tasteless. not worth the visit at all. the taste was not indian at all. i wonder if they have an indian chef. more “

“Although we spent most of our holiday trying to find authentic Egyptian cuisine, the Taste of India became our favourite place during our stay. Aside form… more “

“Although this restaurant serves international cuisine, we went here because it’s primarily an Indian restaurant, and because we like Indian food! The air conditioning is superb, this has got to be the coolest place in Luxor! Service is very friendly and attentive, without being ‘in your face’. “Just got that urge for a curry and we had to go! we wer’nt let down, the food was fresh and plentiful, cheap and fast. The lamb that i had was as good as,if not more tender, any i’ve tried in Britain(and we live close to both, sparkbrook and Lye,in the west mids)This restaurant is well worth a visit. more “

“I have eaten here before when the running of the place seemed a bit hap hazard, though never the food. “Very good food, meat okay, but everything else was excellent. Flavours super. Chilli Naan was by far the best I have ever had. Service super. Big thumbs up, as good as you will find anywhere in the UK. No smoking between 6.30 and 9.30 – a super idea. more “

“Having just returned from two weeks in Luxor, wanted to write about this restaurant. After eating at other establishments, we felt this was the best. A refreshing change to eat in a Luxor restaurant on the West Bank.  A
short taxi ride, or for the more adventurous the local ferry located opposite
Luxor Temple, costing only pennies or should I say piasters. As Luxor
restaurants go not very appealing from the outside but once upstairs you can sit
at a table and enjoy wonderful views across the Nile to Luxor Temple. This Luxor
restaurant provides tasty Egyptian dishes at a fraction of the price of the
restaurants you will find on the East Bank.  My partners tells me they do a
“mean pizza” as well, although I prefer to stick with the local cuisine.
Our 3
courses and a soft drink (for two) came to a very modest 90LE (less than £10).
Well worth a visit not only for the food but great photo opportunities.

“This is quite an easy restaurant to find, it’s on the west bank, and well worth the trip. Take the national ferry (LE1) and turn left as you get off, follow the dockside for about 175 yards, past the camel park and go up the staircase of the first building on your right. Don’t be put off by the dingy… more “

We spent two evening at this lively Luxor restaurant during our stay last
month and thoroughly enjoyed the experience on both occasions. Located next to
Nefertiti Hotel, it offers outdoor dining, tables being situated on a narrow
street adding to the atmosphere.  Egyptian cuisine with a strong Lebanese
influence (try their delicious lentil soup, would love to have the recipe).
If you only fancy some refreshment do try their coffee shop, an excellent selection of
teas available.

Good food, friendly service and reasonably priced.  A definite for
our return trip next month.

“This is the Nefertiti hotel restaurant, which is situated in an alley running between the Luxor / Karnak temple road and the tourist souk. I found the Amoun Restaurant a fairly run of the mill restaurant, nothing to get excited about.
They
serve the usual Egyptian and Mediterranean menu of meats, fish, chicken,
rice dishes and pizzas.  The food was well cooked, staff were friendly and
prices reasonable.   There are certainly better restaurants in Luxor
to while away a pleasant evening but the Amoun restaurant more than acceptable for a lunchtime
meal.

“I have been eating in this resturant for 10+ years both at the old venue & now at NEW Amoun in Savoy strret, Luxor. The staff are of long service & remain polite & helpful as ever. We did not personally try this restaurant having received very
mediocre comments from several new friends at our hotel.  The overall
opinion was ‘thought it was ok but nothing special. Much preferred the Taste of
India which had better, food, service and prices’. Having tried the Taste of
India ourselves and thoroughly enjoyed it we decided, on this trip at least, not try the Bombay.
Can only go on hearsay for this restaurant (although this
was the general view of all 12 friends).

Sharm El Sheikh Holidays

“Nice starters, meat was okayish, a warm welcome, closer to Brit prices than other restaurants we visited, we had a ‘service charge’ we weren’t expecting, but it was still reasonable value. Worth a visit, but not as good as Taste of India. more “

“I have been there in may the food taste similar the indian taste which I ate before in india,a lovely meal and lots of it we were very well, friendlay staff and relaxed atmosphere thank you more “

“Although the Lonely Planet recommends this restaurant, it has been through a few transformations since then. The current Bombay is not connected with the old Bombay. The old one was fine. The new one looks OK but the staff are very casual (playing computer games when we were there) and the food nondescript. There is another Indian restaurant in Luxor… more “

“This restaurant is recommended by Lonely Planet. Though we are not Indians (we did sample a lot of Indian food in US & Asia), we can tell the curry is no good.
