The Roof’ offers spectacular views of Luxor Temple and across the Nile over
to the West Bank (not the easiest of places to find) located on the top floor
above Snacktime. We enjoyed a relaxing hour sipping chilled fruit juices but
sadly we didn’t partake of the food on offer due to a prior engagement, however,
with the mouth-watering aromas drifting over from the grill it was certainly
very tempting.

An ideal place for a chilled drink and photo opportunities.  We didn’t
eat on this occasion so are unable to give a review other than to say many
customers seemed to be enjoying the food and it smelt divine.

Sharm El Sheikh Holidays

“This place is well worth a visit, it’s like a traditional Egyptian grill shop – but with a higher standard acceptable to tourists. The Chicken was superb and comparable to my favourite local place in Alex, moist – tasty and delicious, the meat dishes looked just as delicious and the price was excellent and all that with a fantastic view…. more “

“7th October 2017. We visited the Roof at Snacktime, for the third time in the last month, at 8.30pm. We were attended by a waiter within a few minutes, he just gave us enough time to get settled in. Although not officially a restaurant, I felt we could not
leave out this lovely little tea room when doing our reviews.  Just along
the road from the St Joseph, the tea room open from first thing in the morning
until early evening is spotlessly clean and well decorated.  Delicious
paninis and homemade coleslaw, cheesecake, the best apple pie in Luxor and a
cracking cup of tea, served in a homely relaxed atmosphere.  Thank you
Christine and staff, thoroughly enjoyed our take-away lunch at the airport. See you
again later in the year.

“Yummy .. I’ve travelled to many different countries & frequented many coffee shops/tea rooms, but this ranks the top of them all. It was that good. I’ve heard wonderful things about this Irish owned family run hotel and
restaurant.   Sadly we didn’t get chance to see for ourselves this
time but I’m looking forward to meeting the lovely Mara and sampling her
authentic Egyptian dining experience on our return trip to Luxor next month.

Sharm El Sheikh Holidays

“Firstly I was staying at the attached hotel (Mara House – utterly superb), and ate here 3 nights. The organisation of the serving is slightly odd: there is one sitting starting about 7 and there is no menu to choose from as the idea is a “mini-banquet” to introduce you to common Egyptian dishes. The menu “rotates” every 3 days…. more “

“This is a great business concept. Serve everyone the same food, most of it from the cheapest possible ingredients (vegetables), on silver platters in a wonderful environment. and charge a high price – but one that is just a little cheaper than the big western hotels. “What a huge let down! Following all the good reviews we were expecting something really special. The warm welcome that was so often mentioned was non-existent. We didn’t even know who Mara was, as the woman who opened the door to us didn’t introduce herself. The food comprised several courses of similar, mediocre food (especially the dish that looked and… more “

“After all the T/A reviews, we had to visit. The “complimentary” taxi, it’s included in the price of course, was a necessity as otherwise no one could find it in the back streets. “Very disappointed with this establishment, Having visited it on the strength of Trip advisors reviews we were expecting a real treat, What we experienced was anything but. “Wonderful food and amazing atmosphere Thanks Mara more “

“We spent an enjoyable evening with two friends at Salahadeen.Everyone eats a set five course meal at 8pm, although I believe they are now sometimes serving only three courses. “I saw the reviews before travelling to Luxor and had high expectations. I can only suppose that some of the… more “

“We visited the Salahadeen Restarant on 1st February 2019 to celebrate a “Special” birthday. Snobs Luxor

Restaurant Reviews

Snobs is located right at the end of a long line of restaurants just off the
main road opposite the Nile Palace, so apart from Jewel of the Nile about 30
yards further on, this was last on the map. Bright neon signs with a huge menu
board outside made us a little apprehensive at first, however, once inside we found
the restaurant spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated and the waiters attentive,
if not the most friendly.  Complimentary bread and dips were served while we waited
for our starters.  The food was great, in particular my partner’s starter
of filo wrapped cheese parcels (which I couldn’t resist) and my seafood platter.
Together with a reasonable bottle of wine wine the total bill came to just over
£20.00 for two. Highly recommended.

Jewel of the Nile - Best Luxor Restaurant

The name of this Luxor restaurant describes it perfectly.  Of the many
and varied restaurants in Luxor this certainly is the JEWEL, with top marks for
food, service, cleanliness and price.  Being slightly off the beaten track
doesn’t deter people from finding what I can only describe as Luxor’s premier
restaurant.  With a good selection of both Egyptian and International
cuisine you can be sure that all the dishes are freshly prepared with local
produce.  What a refreshing change to find a restaurant where making money
is not their prime target.  A well run establishment with a warm family
atmosphere and a real understanding of the word service.  If you’re making
a list of ‘ones to try’ make sure you put this one at the top because I can
guarantee you’ll want to return before you go home.  Well done Jewel of the
Nile.

Live-entertainment-at-JJ's-bar-and-restaurant-luxor

New since our visit last year is JJ’s a lively bar and restaurant.  It is easily found in a little side street about
20 yards from the Hilton hotel. We not only enjoyed great food (with generous
portions) from the wide range of international/egyptian dishes but were treated
to the best  live entertainment since arriving in Luxor
(there’s only so much you can take of the repetitive shows provided by some of
the hotels).  A good range of chilled beers and yummy cocktails.
Overall great music, good company and a extensive choice of food and drinks that
won’t break the bank.  Don’t leave it too late in the holiday to try this
one – I can guarantee you’ll want to return. We certainly can’t wait to come

John and John’s Luxor

Restaurant Reviews

John and John’s is located at the Gaddis Hotel (just across the road from the
Pyramisa Isis Hotel) Whilst the restaurant
provides both English and Egyptian food the place has an English feel in every
sense. Here we found friendly staff serving tasty food (my partner had the steak
and pepper sauce and myself the shwarma) with good sized portions at prices for
both food and drink reasonable.  If you’re looking for home from home with
football, karaoke and a Sunday roast then this is the restaurant for you.
However, if you’ve come to Luxor to sample typical Egyptian then you might

The Lantern Luxor

Restaurant Reviews

the-lantern-restaurant-luxor

Having tried the Lantern on previous trips to Luxor I was surprised this year to
find it not up to the usual standard, all of which was rather embarrassing
having invited along 4 new friends from our hotel.  After singing the
praises of the Lantern the meal overall somewhat of a mixed bag.  The lentil soup
delicious, sea bass and greek salad acceptable, however, the combo platters
(soaked in too much oil) were hardly touched.  The lamb hot pots were
lovely, but it was almost impossible to get a knife
through both the fillet steaks and the steak on the surf and turf, even though
steaks knives had been provided. The wine and deserts were good. Although
too polite to criticise, it was obvious from the amount of food returned to the
kitchen that our guests were not very impressed with the Lantern. Cost
wise, apart from the 1886 restaurant at the Sofitel Old Winter Palace, the bill
was the most expensive of the holiday at just over 950LE.

Due to the inconsistent quality of the food I am no longer comfortable
recommending the Lantern to friends and colleagues.
