Holiday Review – Villa Tagoro Tenerife

Reviews of Hotel Villa Tagora

After reading a few of the reviews on this site before going we had mixed feelings…. these were soon forgotten by lovely, friendly reception staff – they never stopped smiling which is always very nice to see & very talkative in almost perfect english. We arrived at our room which was very spacious with a balcony etc It was very clean and the maintenance of the room was also good. The Hotel as a whole was very good, a massive pool, lots of sun lounges etc The entertainment staff were very good and could tell they enjoyed what they were doing.

This however is the only downside to this good hotel… i would recommend this hotel to anyone (Adults, Families, Couples etc). Also just to add, the Thomas Cook reps were very friendly & helped at every opportunity.

Overall an enjoyable holiday!!

Our Opinion?   The best “quality” hotel with value for money in Sharm

Sultan Gardens Resort Map

This is such a great hotel we thought we’d try a different approach this time and write a little each day or so.  You can click the pics for larger views.

Day 1:  Tuesday  We arrived after dark the previous evening.  Our first impressions were good.  We were checked in quickly and efficiently although we waited 15 minutes for the cart to transfer us plus bags to our room.  The hotel was extremely busy though and the complimentary collection from the airport more than made up for this.  I know this hotel has excellent management who are keen to hear comments and act accordingly so a suggestion here might be to seat people with a drink at busy times.  That said it was pleasant after a long journey not to spend 2 hours waiting for your luggage as happens in some hotels and to find tea and coffee making facilities in our very spacious room and lovely fluffy bathrobes.  We have 2 very comfortable pillows on each large single bed plus 2 extra in the wardrobe.  Fantastic.  Satellite TV plus wired and wireless internet.

Sultan Garden Sea View Room 378We woke this morning to find we had the most amazing view.  We sat in bed with our coffee looking out towards Tiran Island as the sun came up.  At breakfast we met Khaled who worked very hard looking after us and still found a few moments to chat.  The restaurant is very busy and as others have commented on trip advisor the Russians are a nightmare greedy rude and loud.  However there is little the hotel can do about that.  The food at all three meals today was excellent quality including beef chicken fish and quail.  We made a decision to go easy on the wine.  Unlike many hotels it is served in generous quantities and with both us suffering with colds it’s early nights for us for a few days.

Day 2:  Wednesday   Helens in bed with eyes and nose streaming thanks to the English weather back home so I got to breakfast alone.  7am and the restaurant is Khaled Magdy - our fabtastic waiter at the Sultan Gardens Resortfully functioning but lovely and quiet.  It can be very noisy since it’s the run up to Christmas and the hotel is full especially in the evening but the second area in the Linah Restaurant is a quieter room and this is where we are eating.  We sunbathe around pools 2 and 3.  These pools are not heated but it’s never really that cold in Sharm and here there is never any problem getting a bed and some peace and quiet away from children and boisterous games.

A nice surprise this evening.  Our table is waiting and Khaled has remembered what we drink and a glass of wine is ready for us.  Brilliant!  The party at the next table find their table decorated with balloons and flower petals for their special occasion.  Their drinks are ready too.

Day 3:  Thursday   Today is a complete washout for Helen.  She is so poorly she doesn’t want to get out of bed or even eat anything.  So breakfast alone again for me at 7am.  The restaurant is quiet with hardly a soul in site but getting very busy before I leave.  Birthday Celebration at the Sultan Gardens ResortI decided to try room service for lunch – an excellent club sandwich with fries and coleslaw costing 32 LE (less than £4/$6).  It took 20 minutes – they had said 30 minutes – so that was very good.  I ate later than usual .  The restaurant was crowded again.  For myself I prefer it quieter but I guess that’s the price you pay for a well run hotel that is very popular.  One small moan here – and I will say it’s common to many Egypt hotels – I realised that because the room wasn’t cleaned with Helen being ill in bed we had no water.  I explain to the waitress and ask for a bottle.  She checks with her manager but it is only available at a charge.  I find this a little annoying as Helen and I drink barely one glass of wine a day where others drink everything in site morning noon and night but as I say it’s common in Egypt.

Day 4:  Friday   Helen is well enough to get up so breakfast in the Linah.  Khaled fetches coffee and water for us so Helen has a relaxing breakfast and saves her energy for some serious sunbathing.  Pool 2 is very quiet and peaceful – plenty of beds and we sunbathe until lunch.  Towels are part of the package and are plenty big enough to cover the beds which are very comfortable.  This pool isn’t heated but even so it’s warm enough to swim and all the pools are very clean.  We have a late lunch and even though its nearly 3pm the food is still plentiful and hot with a full selection.  In the evening we eat at the Italian.  We are 30 minutes early for our sitting but we are welcomed and seated with a drink.  A few moans here from some guests (dare I mention the Russians again).  The food is ‘Nouvelle Cuisine’ small quantities but very nicely cooked and presented.  Frankly after seeing the Russians taking 8 bread rolls 6 oranges etc. at lunch (and leaving half) it doesn’t surprise me that they find the food inadequate at the Italian.  Personally I thought it was a very pleasant change in a lovely setting with full waiter service and you can eat here at no extra charge twice a week.  If I had a criticism at all it would be that there are only 4 preset menus and you can’t choose a starter from one a main course from another etc. so picky eaters might have a problem.  That said this is a good service for the price of our holiday.  If we had paid true 5* prices I might have expected more.  At this point it might be worth showing the prices I collected from Flightline for 2 weeks accommodation only departing in 4 weeks time ie last minute bookings.  It will illustrate that you should take note of the price you paid before you compare one hotels facilities with another.  Compare Hotel Prices in Sharm

Day 5:  Saturday  We decide to skip breakfast from now on.  Its too easy to eat way too much here.  So we get to pool 1 which is heated and closest to us around 9am.  Another great thing about this hotel is that they enforce the ‘no reserving sun beds’ rule.  The first time I’ve ever seen it enforced and it makes a real difference.  I hope they keep it up.  The hotel is full in the run up to Xmas yet Dina at the Sultan Gardens Health Clubthere is still never a problem getting a sun bed in a good position.  I suppose if you arrive at 11am at one of the heated pools it will be a little busy but pools 2 and 3 still have plenty of beds in prime positions.

Before we settle down for our sunbathing Meroo from the Health Club catches us.  I negotiate a discount for several massages and book for 6pm that evening.  Dina is my masseur and all the staff are vey friendly.  I am very impressed with the massage.  It is the full amount of time and she is an excellent masseur finding the places I have problems (too much computer work knots my shoulders especially the right).  She deals with this very effectively.

Day 6:  Sunday  We’ve been here almost a week now so perhaps now would be a good time to talk about food.  Almost every hotel in Sharm gets reviews that say the food gets a little repetitive by the second week and it has to be said the same is true here.  However again I will say that what you paid for your holiday has a lot to do with this.  If I’d paid the price I pay for the Maritim Golf I would be expecting more but here I think they do just fine considering every day we watch the Russians eating and drinking enough to bankrupt any hotel.  Today we watched one couple take in a carrier bag and fill it with oranges and bread-rolls.  Yesterday another family piled a table with enough food for 10 people – they were 2 with 2 young children.  There were 11 drinks on the table.  Having eaten what would have lasted me for days the rest they left and walked out.  This is typical – we see it every day at every meal.  I wish some-one would explain to me why the Russians feel the need to do this.  I know we shouldn’t assume they are all like this and sometimes the English can be just as bad but it does seem a growing trend for people to moan about the Russians and for some reason I have seen a lot of it this holiday.  I do hope the hotel continues to improve and takes itself up-market rather than cater for this type of thing.

Day 7:  Monday  Today seems very quiet especially in the Restaurant.  Maybe it is changeover day.  There seems to be a change in the mix of guests fewer Russians who seem more ‘polite’ more English and a mix of other nationalities including Japanese.  The atmosphere seems to change for the better.  This evening we meet a very nice Russian lady and chat for a while.  I can’t imagine her stuffing herself with a ridiculous amount of food or filling a bag with oranges so it just goes to show that we shouldn’t make assumptions.  We eat at the Italian again tonight.

Day 8:  Tuesday  Today the wind is howling a gale.  I love it like this.  It makes it very pleasant for sunbathing and it’s easy to find a sheltered spot.  Breakfast is very busy though and clearly is it going to be very hectic over the holiday period.  We sunbathe all morning skipping lunch and in the afternoon I have another massage with Dina.  Moataz Sultan Gardens Health ClubMoataz at the health club helps me with my Arabic which I am learning very slowly.  I hear him offer to play squash with an English guest who has no partner and ask if I can get a lesson.  I tried to learn years ago but was unsuccessful.  Now at almost 57 maybe its a bit late but it will be fun.  The evening meal is horrendously busy.  No-one is eating outdoors with the wind being so high the hotel is fit to burst for Christmas and everyone seems to have arrived at the same time.  The staff are really under pressure but no-one has to wait more than a few minutes for a table.  The managers are all out helping with whatever needs doing including clearing tables and the food never runs out.  The only real slip I could see is that some of the desserts were nearly frozen.  I don’t know if this was a problem with the chiller or maybe a miscalculation of how busy it would get.  I make a mental note that when a resort is as popular as this one it perhaps is not the place for me in the run-up to Christmas.  I am looking forward to January when I return with my husband for 3 weeks.  I like a quiet holiday but I think most people will enjoy the atmosphere for Christmas.  Most places I would be worried by now that they simply wouldn’t cope but here I see the management is on top of any potential problems before they happen.

Day 9:  Wednesday  I am up early and looking forward to squash with Moataz but also wondering Squash with Moataz
Manager of the Sultan Gardens Health Clubif I will last 30 minutes.  I haven’t played for 30 years and even then just a few lessons and I was never very good.  However he is an excellent teacher and I manage to burn quite a few calories.  When I get a bit fitter maybe I will ask the guys at the health club to help me work out with some weights.

Already I am looking forward to another lesson next day as we head for breakfast and then a walk along the beach.   Its another lazy day for me sunbathing then another massage with Dina at 5pm.  I am so pleased I organised my massages.  The staff at the health club have really made my holiday extra special.  I know they work very long hours but they are always ready with a smile and a few words of Arabic which I am trying to learn although I am painfully slow.

Day 10:Egyptian night at the Sultan Gardens Resort   Thursday   Another squash lesson with Moataz and this time I am not so out out breath.  I have ME and asthma which doesn’t help but Moataz is a wealth of information on how to breath and when and how to rest (and when not to) and I find I am coping better than I thought.  This evening it is Egyptian night in the restaurant.  The food is tasty one of my favorite nights.  The clienetele for Christmas has definitely changed and the atmosphere is very pleasant.  Although everywhere is busy busy busy things are under control and everyone seems happy.  Khaled really looks the part in his Egyptian outfit.  Nagla and Ahmed are always helpful also.

Day 11:  FridayPlaying squash with Moataz at the Sultan Gardens Health Club  Another great day and the hotel is now very lively as things pick up for Christmas.  I’m sad we’re leaving on the 22nd but we will be back in January when we will have chance to see the hotel at a quieter time.  More squash with Moataz and another massage with Dina.  I can’t believe the time has gone so quick.  Today we talk to Mohamed Zaki who supervises in the Linah Restaurant – an excellent job he does too.

Day 12:  Saturday   Meet our happy helpful waiters starting with Mohamed who keeps everyone on their toes but like all the managers is not beyond helping out wherever needed the ever-smiling Khaled who never seems to stop and Ahmed and Nagla. Between them they made us feel very special and welcome at the Sultan Gardens Linah Restaurant.  All the staff deserve a mention – they work long hard hours to make every-ones holiday great but we felt we should single out these four.

Day 13:  Sunday

Diving at the Sultan Gardens Resort

Sadly I can’t dive – my asthma is playing up but we have a quick trip down to the dive centre so I can at least dream about the next visit.  The guys are all busy but still find time for a quick pic.  More about the dive centre next visit.

In the evening we meet up with a friend who work at the Maritim Jolie Ville Golf and have a great night out in Naama Bay.  A fitting end to a fantastic holiday.

Our congratulations go to Basel the manager for holding together a quality value for money service at what must be one of the busiest times of the year.

and one last very festive shot of the staff at the health club.

Here are some recent comments:

“Food is very good and everyday you can find something different to eat. We especially liked the Italian restaurant Casa Mia which is served a’la carte. “

“We had one night on the hotel beach where we had the seafood barbecue. That was an AMAZING night with a table in the sand candles and food that was better than anything I’ve ever tasted. This was by far the best night. The chef came over and chatted to everyone it was definitely something special.”

“All the staff cannot be praised enough and the owners Basel and Mohamed were fab too and happy to help. The rooms were great spacious clean and the beds were so comfy.  I can honestly say I have never had such good food and such a variety the kids enjoyed it all too they have never eaten so much on holiday.”

Overall Rating: 3/10

Comments: Villas Canarias (Xanadu) shortly to be re-named Villas Cuccarachas was a very “different” family holiday for us in February this year.

On arrival we were fairly pleased with the accommodation which was clean and bright and does cater for most of your needs. However we soon found that the lockable safe had been broken into so we had no where to store our valuables. We must have struck lucky with our sun terrace as ours was in the sun for most of the day and we were on the ground floor.

Then as we had booked a one bedroom apartment for my 7 month old son, 7 year old daughter and my husband and I, thinking that we could share a sofa bed in the living area leaving the bedroom for my daughter and the cot for my son. No chance! The very badly described sofa bed was simply a wooden sofa that did not fold out or do anything useful with cushions in short supply. We did manage to make a bed with the cushions some how, but then the visitors came!

Cockroaches everywhere and it got so bad that after the first night we had to push the 2 single beds together in the bedroom and sleep in there with our daughter. Cosy eh?

The staff were not helpful or sympathetic at all but grudgingly supplied us with a kettle and extra bedding on request. and I am not entirely sure that the pool would conform to health and safety standards but it does look nice.

Costa Adeje itself is a lovely area with lots to see and do and we found ourselves spending as much time out and about as possible that would keep us away from the apartment. There is a very steep walk to the apartment from the beach but we welcomed this as a way of burning off all the extra calories from the lovely restaurants, and would not complain about this at all.

I would definitely not recommend Villas Canarias to anyone visiting Costa Adeje but I am told that there are many other lovely hotels in the area, oh well you live and learn.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Otherwise known as Xanadu apartments. Supposed to be refusbished. Disgusting…staff extremely unfriendly…cochroaches…sheets not clean…apartments not clean. Just about the worst place to go for a holiday. Supposed to be family friendly……you really dont want to go there full of drunken yobs. My worst holiday ever.

At the top of “Cardiac Hill” cant say more than that….glad to be back home.

Steigenberger Nile Palace Hotel

Khaled Ben Walid St , Luxor

The Steigenberger Nile Palace hotel is without doubt one of Luxor’s best 5 star hotels with a high standard accommodation and first-class hospitality. With panoramic views over the Nile to the West Bank where the valley of Kings and Queens are found.  Situated in centre of Luxor it is the perfect base from which to explore this amazing city, most of the tourist sites being within walking distance.

SteigenbergerNile Palace Hotel

On arriving at Luxor Airport we were collected by the ‘limo’ as previously arranged with the hotel (please note that the transportation whilst extremely comfortable it is not, as advertised, a limousine as we know it back home) however at the very reasonable price of 12 euros in total each way for both of us it was excellent value and certainly beats hanging around waiting for minibuses to fill up.  Once at the hotel we were immediately shown to our room which was comfortable, spacious, well decorated and had a delightful (if somewhat tiny) balcony overlooking the courtyard.  Apart from the usual mini-bar, satellite television, hair dryer, air conditioning and ample complimentary toiletries, the hotel provides in each room internet access (terms arranged with reception) and a safety deposit box (free of charge).

Our first morning we enjoyed a lavish buffet breakfast, with a wide selection of local and international specialities on offer, served in the relaxed surroundings of the air conditioned Nubian Restaurant, however, on subsequent days we took and early breakfast outside on the terrace to soak up the warmth of the sun (just avoiding quickly rising temperatures) to take in the splendid views overlooking the Nile. The staff were pleasant and attentive both indoors and on the terrace, and happily topped up my coffee for the sixth or seventh time always with a smile.

Our morning relax around swimming pool was a delight, no rush to push out towels early in the morning to save a sun bed, with plenty of beds at all times of the day and the pool staff providing freshly laundered towels we were in seventh heaven.

Returning to the hotel late afternoon most days after an action packed day, we were grateful to visit the hotel’s health and fitness centre for a relaxing massage.  Friendly and experienced staff pampered and revived us ready for the evening.

Hotel Nile Palace - Health Centre Staff

Ashraf, Mahmoud and Nazera

With a patisserie, Italian and Lebanese restaurants surrounding the courtyard, the hotel offers an hour or two of nightly entertainment (although a little repetitive during the two week holiday it was by far the best on offer from any of the major hotels in Luxor)   After our evening meal we were privileged to be able to  listen to the music and enjoy elevated views of the shows from the comfort our balcony overlooking the courtyard.  As the entertainment finished no later than 10.30 each evening there was never any excessive noise and we were never disturbed, so we regarded the courtyard view a big plus.  We did however checkout the Nile view rooms and have to say if you plan on spending a fair amount of time on your balcony then it’s well worth the extra money for the breathtaking views.  Having said that don’t worry if you’re on a budget there are many excellent areas in the hotel and grounds were you can enjoy equally impressive views.

The Nile Palace customer service staff closely monitored the performance of the hotel with frequent telephone calls to check that everything was satisfactory and to see whether they could be of assistance.  On reporting one morning that we had a problem with paint fumes from a room being refurbished further along the corridor, we were found an alternative room and our belongings moved all within the space of an hour.

As our flight home was late in the evening so towards the end of our holiday we contacted reception to see whether it was possible to have a late checked out.  We arranged to keep our room on until late afternoon for the cost of less than £20, which was fantastic enabling us to enjoy our holiday right up to the last minute.

Overall we found the hotel staff efficient and friendly, with the reception staff ringing the evening before our departure to confirm our flight details so that the transport could be arranged for our return journey to the airport.

As regular visitors to Luxor, this has to be the best hotel visited to date, they seem to have just the right balance offering a quality hotel with service that puts the guests at their easy.  I can see why many of the guests we spoke with said they looked forward to returning to this hotel.

Kenzi Europa Agadir Morocco

Nov 8, 2019 If you’re going to this hotel make sure you take plenty of stomach upset tablets – we arrived on Monday and by Wednesday had the most awful stomach cramps and could not keep of the toilet. needless to say had food poisoning from the awful luke warm food that they dished out. few English people the bar staff very ignorant and would not give my 11 year old son 2 bottles of water even though we were all inclusive. definitely wont be going back.

WILL NOT BE GOING BACK TO THIS HOTEL

Nov 10, 2019 Where do I start? Well to keep it brief, I checked the reviews before I booked and didn’t believe it could be as bad as people said it was (more fool me). After looking at the pictures of the place I was convinced people must have been “too fussy” (how wrong was I)

Firstly I would rate the Kenzi Europa hotel a good 2* definitely not a 5*. This definitely needs to be looked at because the most ‘misleading’ statement they could make.

The pictures look great but when you get close up in the flesh EVERYTHING is dirty! there is no such thing as a ‘non-smoking’ room as they all smell of nicotine and all the furnishings overthrows, curtains, headboards etc are ‘sticky’ with nicotine Yuck! We asked to change our room 3 times when we arrived because there is a pungent smell lingering in most of the rooms…we settled for less of a view to get away from the smell.

The food was diabolical, I can usually find something to eat in a foreign country but this food was rank! Most people @ the hotel had stomach upsets at some point and one guy who was there introduced us to his wife as they were leaving on their last day, we didn’t even know he HAD a wife!! she was in her room ALL week with a runny tummy!!!

I could never had brought my kids here or they would have starved all week..although one couple’s daughter lets call her ‘C’ WHO WAS ONLY 13 managed to find something daily and didn’t complain once!! credit to the girl….

The staff were friendly enough as were the locals.

The all inclusive drink range consisted of 3 spirits and 1 bottled beer/lager coke and lemonade oh and water… that’s it!!

The whole resort is one big building site .. I’m sure in say 20 years they may have it right but for now I wouldn’t send my dog there!!

I know its a third world country but that’s no excuse, we checked out other hotels while we were there to compare and believe me you can get a lot better for less money!

Overall the only plus was the weather! hot hot hot!!

Worldwide Holiday Travel visited the Maritim Jolie Ville Golf September 2017.  This is our review.

Review of the 4* Maritim Jolie Ville Golf Sharm El Sheikh Egypt    (5* Sharm El Sheikh Egypt standards) by Worldwide Holiday Travel  September

Maritim Jolie Ville Golf Holiday Reviews

Surroundings:  Excellent well maintained gardens with plenty of sunbeds.

Location: On the beach a short drive from Sharm airport..

Food:  Excellent food.  One of the best points about the hotel.

ElDesouki Best of all the staff at the Maritim GolfService:  Absolutely 5*.  We preferred the main restaurant where the waiters were even more attentive with a special mention for ElDesouki who really made our holiday.  We would go back again if only to see ElDesouki again.  A mention also for Amr in the Ascot bar.  We would have liked to have seen more of Amr but we hated the Ascot bar – so dark and gloomy and I’m not keen on sport while I’m on holiday.  Also excellent service from guest relations and concierge when XL Airways collapsed and we were left without flights.

Maritim Jolie Ville Golf Entertainment

Entertainment:  This was the one area I felt let the hotel down.  September was a quiet time and the whole hotel had very little atmosphere.  The resident singers whilst pleasant were boring and managed to make every tune sound the same and outside acts were VERY basic.  By 19pm the show was finished and the restaurant and stage area deserted.

Rooms at the Maritim Jolie Ville Golf

Rooms:  418 rooms and suites as well as 6 luxury villas. The exclusive ”Royal Wing“ which has especially spacious rooms and its own swimming pool.

Our room a standard was gorgeous and very spacious but overlooked a courtyard and many do.  No sign of sea or pool so felt a little soulless but nonetheless it was a beautiful room and very quiet.

All Inclusive:  Called ‘Premium Service’ this was excellent value for money with things like fresh orange juice at breakfast although it was tiresome to have to pay for coffee and brandy which I enjoy before retiring.  I feel they do not encourage all-inclusive – you can’t book it direct with the hotel only through agents during very quiet times.

Summary:

Well managed hotel with efficient air conditioning very well run although attention should be given to entertainment and atmosphere.  Wardrobe space was more than adequate.  Pet hate of mine is not having enough space but no problems here.  The beds are comfortable and the maid service excellent.

The pool is great plenty of room with towels provided.  The lazy river was beautiful.  However I did miss not having a good beach area and was disappointed to see the bars overlooking the sea close before sundown.

Would I go back to the Maritim Jolie Ville Golf?

Yes we would but mainly because of the staff.  The all inclusive option is good value for money but we would go for peace and quiet during the quiet times eg September.  Although we would return we felt that somehow the magic was missing.

Jolie Ville Golf & Resort Sharm El-Sheikh *****

tiddles02 Aylesbury bucks Sep 3 2017

Recently returned from a two week visit to this hotel and all I can say is that is was fantastic. The hotel is spotlessly clean the rooms huge and the service very good We stayed on half board basis and can honestly say the food was very good Breakfast was buffet service and there is something for all tastes and plenty of it.

Dinner is based on a theme such as oriental or Mediterranean so its not the same food night after night and they never serve chips! you also have the choice of a Chinese or a Lebanese restaurant. There is nightly entertainment which consists of two girls singing (sounds like karaoke only not as good) and then a show which is different every night. saw belly dancing and guy who stood on broken glass none of it brilliant but it was entertaining There is a kids club which was pretty good and ran most of the day.

There was an amazing sight at the back of the hotel where there is steps down to the beach and the jetties onto the red sea it was gorgeous. The pools in the hotel are amazing I have never seen so many there is a lazy river that runs round them all and it was lovely. There are water slides and play areas for the children big and small. Taxis from Naama a little hair raising and they will try and get you to pay a lot but definitely should not pay more than 50 Egyptian pounds.

Prices for drinks around the pool a little pricey but hey this is a 5 star hotel. Just stock up at the supermarkets in Naama. Take note this is not the place to go if you want to drink good wines etc with dinner the Egyptian wine is 18 pound a bottle and it is rubbish. We do enjoy a glass of wine but alcohol consumption was greatly reduced here. Not complaining though every thing else so good. if You want to go to Sharm I would definitely suggest you go here.

Review of the 4* Maritim Jolie Ville Royal Peninsula Sharm El Sheikh Egypt    (5* Sharm El Sheikh Egypt standards) by Worldwide Holiday Travel  September 2017

Maritim Jolie Ville Royal Peninsula Holiday Reviews

Surroundings:  Excellent well maintained gardens with plenty of sunbeds but I suspect may be a problem in busy times.

Location: A short drive from Sharm airport.  Constant planes overhead may be a problem for some.

Food:  Excellent food although a little limited in the restaurant at lunch time.

Maritim Royal Peninsula Thai RestaurantService:  Very good although tipping always helps of course.  The Italian was a pleasant evening although the menu was basic.  The Thai was good but pricey at £50 for those having paid all inclusive already.  Let down by cold plates and service that was too quick leaving you feeling rushed.

Entertainment:  Basic but did have a little more atmosphere than it’s sister hotel the Golf.  However the hotel was very quiet as it was Ramadan and too hot for golfing.  This would no doubt have an effect.

Rooms at the Maritim Jolie Ville Royal Peninsula

Rooms:  337 rooms and 16 suites

Our room a standard was gorgeous and very spacious – in fact I’ve had hotel rooms that were smaller than our bathroom here.  Wardrobe space was superb.  Free wireless internet access in our room was a great boon.

All Inclusive:  Called ‘Premium Service’ this was excellent value for money  although it was tiresome to have to pay for coffee and brandy which I enjoy before retiring.  Still good value for money.

Finally:

Well managed hotel with efficient air conditioning very well run although attention should be given to entertainment and atmosphere.

The pool is great plenty of room with towels provided.   However I did miss not having a  beach area.

Would I go back to the Maritim Jolie Ville Royal Peninsula?

Probably not.  Perhaps in September again if the price was right but we didn’t feel this hotel had much to offer and I don’t think I would like to have been there when it was busy.  It’s only saving grace was the pool area being so quiet when we went.  Having said that the staff and service couldn’t be faulted.

Jolie Ville Royal Peninsula Sharm El-Sheikh ****

ukJJ1 UK  Sep 7 2017

Stayed at the Maritim Jolie Ville Royal Peninsula in Aug 08. Hotel grounds and rooms are very good. Food is generally good. Beer is OK wine is dreadful. Staff are helpful as is the general manager who really put his self out to ensure issues are resolved. All inclusive is here as I understand it is typical for Egypt and only local alcoholic drinks. Only the beer was drinkable. Confusion can happen because there are 3 Maritims near Nama bay and only this one is listed on trip advisor. The best point is the Swimming pool. Big and spotlessly clean. The worst is the really bad entertainment. You will really struggle to get peace by the swimming pool and at night it is not much better. We went with teenage children and it was not the best as there were very few European children to mix with and language restricted them mixing well with locals. Summary good but no intention to return.

Surroundings:  Excellent very pleasant garden setting for Sandos Haciendas pool view or sea view for Sandos Beach  and most (but not all) have pool views at Sandos Rivera Hotel.  See Sandos Beach Resort Map for more details.

We felt the Sandos Haciendas deserved a special mention.  These small units of 4 rooms on ground level and 4 rooms above had a pool are sunbathing area each.  Although not large pools they are a great idea for cooling off whilst sunbathing or for those with kids.  Hammocks and Jacuzzi’s are also available at ach hacienda block.

Location: On the beach although the resort itself is quite large so it can be quite a trek to the beach depending on your room location.  Those in the Riviera have farthest to go but have the advantage of being closer to the adults only pool and the Asian and Brazilian Restaurants both of which are free on the All inclusive tariff.

Reception: There are two reception lobbies both efficient and very pleasant.  One is located at the front of the resort by the Riviera Hotel the other is central dividing the Haciendas from ‘The Avenue’  where you will find several bars and restaurants and beyond that the Sandos beach rooms and the beach and sea it self.

One very strong criticism here.  Having left home some 16 hours earlier with a 10-11 hour flight I really don’t want some-one posing as part of the Sandos welcoming committee trying to encourage me to go on a ‘Sandos Club’ presentation at 8 am next morning.  She was quite insistent that she would only to talk to us for 5 minutes but 15 minutes later we managed to get away only by being rather blunt.  I have heard people referring to this as the Sandos Timeshare Scam.  It isn’t what it sounds but they really do themselves no favours by pushing this so hard the minute people walk through the door.

Please come back later to read more about this excellent resort.

Reviews about Sandos Playacar Beach Resort

Here are some recent comments:

“We found food to be really good at the Sandos Playacar Resort never have a problem finding something to eat.  Staff: Really nice hardworking people. At the restaurant most of the employees were excellent and very helpful and treat us really nice. We felt pampered most of the time they were always trying to accommodate us to eat and always made my baby smile.”

“The beach was stellar probably the nicest beach in Playa Del Carmen. The sand was like soft flour and the water was pristine. There were many pools to choose from with many activities going on all day long. There wasn’t any time to be bored unless you just wanted to relax. We seemed to enjoy the pool in the Riviera Section which had a swim-up-bar the most. However we used the pools in the Beach Section the most because of its central location.”

“Sandos Playacar Beach Resort & Spa The night-time entertainment was great as MC Pablo and entertainment staff like Linnea and Arienne did an awesome job keeping the guests entertained on nights sandwiched in-between professional performers from Cancun and local areas. Those were nice breaks from the beach and dinner.”

Review of Meal at Annwell Inn Smisby  17/9/2019

First let me say that you can’t fault it for value for money.  I’m a bit odd and I often like 2 starters instead of a main meal.

So our meal order consisted of a prawn platter on the menu with brown bread and butter garlic mushrooms with cream brandy garlic and coriander sauce and garlic toast and cod and chips along with 2 175ml glasses of red wine and a diet coke all for less than £19.

Now this is where I get frustrated.  No you can’t beat it for value for money I have to admit but the Annwell Inn Smisby is so close to being a really good restaurant yet the small things that I feel are important are missing.

The size of the prawn platter was huge about 3 or 4 times the amount in other restaurants/pubs and it was served with a decent amount of lettuce and 2 slices of cucumber.  It would have been far better to have served less prawns and dressed the salad up a little – it doesn’t take much a wedge of lemon a little tomato a sliver of carrot or onion or pepper etc..

Quantity isn’t everything.  It’s not that you could fault the quality of the food just that I would prefer to see those few extra touches even if it cost more.  Another real grouse of mine is when you see something on the menu and they serve something different without mentioning it.  The prawn platter should have been served with brown bread and butter but it came with white maybe no big deal but not all of us like to eat white bread.

The mushrooms were plentiful and very rich although the garlic was raw and the brandy harsh and the garlic toast which I was really looking forward too turned out to be toasted bread rolls unbuttered no garlic.  The pepper mill being empty and falling apart in my hands didn’t help much either.

The cod and chips came with 2 good pieces of fish with peas carrots and broccoli and frankly couldn’t be faulted.  I think the batter is the chefs own made with beer.

The service was friendly but certainly not ‘up-market’ with little gems  offered to the next table like “we ain’t gorr any of them no more” and with our bill “ignore the pencil bits rubbed out -they’re not yours”.  They were very pleasant and helpful though so no complaints there.

Would we go back again.  Yes we certainly would mainly because the Annwell offers excellent value for money.  What makes me sad is that it should do much better than 4 tables at peak time on a Saturday night.  It has the makings of a fine high standard restaurant but just doesn’t quite get there.
