Hotel Sofitel Sharm El Sheikh Holiday Reviews

Hotel Sofitel Sharm El Sheikh

Just returned from our second stay at this fantastic hotel, good food, fantastic location, pleasant and helpful staff and just the right distance from Naama Bay.
Sofitel Sharm El Sheikh has beautiful and extensive grounds with a very large pool, rooms are very clean but could do with some updating just go you will love.

We visited the Sofitel last October and have booked again for 2019.
The hotel is ideally situated on the shores of Naama Bay with private beaches, good security and beautiful grounds.
If you’re looking for a relaxing break yet still near enough to the town for shopping, night life and restaurants then the Sofitel is ideal. The hotel staff are excellent and very friendly without being ‘over the top’. The food on half board is mainly buffet style and if you are there for 2 weeks I would suggest seeing what nights you are not impressed with the food choice in week 1 and eat at either the hotel Indian or venture into town on those nights in week 2. Breakfasts were wonderful and kept you going for the rest of the day.
Would suggest you buy water bottles in the town and take them back to your room to put in the Mini bar as drinks are expensive at the hotel.
The private beaches are well looked after and the coral reefs excellent with Moray eels, parrot fish, lion fish and even a turtle. However there are some guests who don’t observe the signs to say ‘don’t stand on the coral’ and you can easily see the damage they cause. I would suggest buying a waterproof camera case and Debelius’s ‘Red Sea Reef Guide’ before going on holiday as the money spent (around 20 pounds each on E Bay) is well worth it and will help with the memories when you get back. Birdlife was also impressive with Kestrels, bee eaters, white storks and Ospreys in the hotel grounds.
Contact the hotel before you fly out and they will gladly arrange collection at the airport although it can be a squash if several people are collected at the same time. I would also suggest that you ask for a room on the 3rd or 4th level to be away from any major pool noise but also to give you a good view of Naama Bay. We were on the 5th floor and the view was slightly restricted. We never had any complaint re the noise and you can always close the windows and have the air con on should it be a problem. Beware the odd mosquito in your room.
The rooms are perfectly ok and yes the bathrooms could be better but more fool you if you want to spend that much time in your room rather than being out in the sun and sea. Rooms had daily service and a mini safe. There are a lot of stairs and I agree that if you are older or unfit ask for a room on the first floor or close to a lift (2)
The guests were mainly Italian, French and Russian with very few British – they seemed to be staying at hotels in the middle of Naama Bay.
Overall, I would recommend the hotel for its location, staff and general relaxed feel where you can do as much or as little as you want to.

Free pickup from the airport (15min journey) arranged with hotel brought us to an impressive oriental reception at the Sofitel. Quick check in and porter took us to our room. Hotel situated on cliff top giving stunning views across Naama Bay. The bedroom was very spacious and comfortable with a good sized double bed, sitting area and balcony. The position of this hotel means it gets the best views across Naama Bay, also many of the other hotels along the promenade have the main path walking between them and their beach, not so here once you are on site it is only other hotel guests who are allowed here! The hotel has numerous facilities: A massive pool (never crowded), private beaches, dive centre, pool, table tennis, jacuzzi etc is at an additional cost (7 euros/day). There is an “entertainment” programme involving dancing, aqua gym etc which is disruptive and intrusive to those wanting to relax by the pool, however it only lasts round about an hour each day. Breakfast (continental, cooked, egyptian) is served in the restaurant. There are other restaurants and bars on-site but they are very expensive and a short walk into Naama Bay centre gives you hundreds to choose from at a fraction of the price. However the buffet at the hotel is great (served outside) and the Indian gives great food and great views over the bay! There are a couple of bars including the outdoor Horizon bar which is quieter than the bar for “entertainment”. The hotel is situated about 30 mins walk along the promenade. Rated 5 star by the Egyptian Tourist Authority. A great place for some R&R after seeing the sites of Egypt. Oh and amazing snorkling from the hotels private beaches right onto a coral reef.

This is a really nice hotel all the staff cannot do enough for you… the place is kept very clean. The food is a little repetative but that’s what you have to expect on a all inclusive holiday it’s okay though something for everyone… if ya are the five star diner then don’t book all inclusive!!!!!!!! Naama Bay only 5 to 10 mins walk lots do there… the weather is mega hot we went late may beginning June and it was 39 Plus some days……. rooms have great air con…and if ya have any probs just ring reception they can’t do enough too help ya… Good tip is give the pool attendants who gives the towels out a good tip and he will secure your beds everyday for you….so no early morning’s to go and put ya towels on the beds…. All in all a really good holiday with happy staff would definately go back…….

Eight adult family members went to this hotel.. We were on an all inclusive basis. We arrived in early hours of morning and had a quick check in. Staff took us swiftly to our rooms which were large, clean and cool. Ethnic in style. Some snacks had been laid on in each room. Restaurants were brilliant with fabulous variety of food. All pools were crystal clear and bars supplying endless drinks and snacks were available at all times. The resort was spotless. Gardens and walkways pristine. Highly recommend this hotel to all ages. You could choose quiet or noisy. There was a place for everyone. A 15 min walk fo Naama Bay along a well lit walkway, or shuttle bus from hotel. Coral in the sea close to beach had loads of beautiful fish swimming around it.

Have just returned from a week stay at the Sonesta Beach Resort., The hotel was excellent, room was enormous more like an apartment than a hotel room. Bed was enormous, two seperate rooms with single beds in plus lounge area with tv. The food was very nice, two main restaurants plus one specallist which you had to book also an Italian which you had to pay e xtra for. Pools were very nice with plenty of sun beds and parasols. Would highly recommend this hotel and hope to go back again myself

Hotel Sierra Sharm El Sheikh

Just got back from a very enjoyable stay at the SIERRA Hotel. I do not underdstand what some people expect for there money. I agree that the food is a little basic but there is a wide choice, so everybody should be able to find something to eat. . We stayed for 10 days and was not ill once. You just have to be a little bit sensible. The drinks were very nice as were the Pizzas by the pool. The beach was fantastic, snorkelling will never be the same again. I can not say anything bad about this hotel. Our rep was late picking us up.Tthe hotel shuttle bus took my husband and myself to the airport for free. We didn’t even ask them. The only comment I will make is about the evening entertainment. Although the fountain bar in soho square, which is part of the all inc package and is open until 1am, the entertainment seems to be geared mainly towards the mother land Russia. The nightclub is All inc until 4am and not 1am as someone else had suggested, always a good bit of fun, All inc covers local drinks only. The rooms were spacious and clean as was all of the hotel. I will definately go back next year.

The Sierra is a nice hotel, very clean and tidy, really nice pool area and most of the staff are really helpful and welcoming. Our room was always clean and tidy thanks to out cleaner who was a godsend, a $1 per day tip ensures that you have plenty of water in your fridge, the cleaners only leave 2 bottles of water per day but due to the heat you will go through liters per day. The only draw back was the food, nothing special but I wasn’t to keen on any of the meals provided, breakfast was fine really nice but the afternoon and evening meals wasn’t up to much, over all it was a nice holiday and if the food gets better I would go back anytime, but thats my view, try it ?

Just back yesterday from the Sierra hotel. A really nice hotel in a lovely area. Much preferred where we were located to the more popular Naama Bay which to be honest, I didn’t really like at all.

The Sierra is clean and bright. The staff are variable, mostly very nice and acommodating, but some are a bit surly, but only a few. The secret is to tip when you are there and they will make sure you are looked after, especially if you are at the pool and they will bring you drinks all day long – look out for Louie, he was really nice and he made sure we always had drinks. The rooms where nice and bright. The air con was fabulous and the beds very comfy. I slept better there than I do at home. The rooms are cleaned every day and we had fresh towels every day too. The pool was lovely.

Now for the only thing that stops the Sierra from getting 5 stars – THE FOOD! I can honestly say hand on heart, that I am the least fussy person ever – I’ve been on holiday loads of times and stayed in some rough places, but the food at the Sierra is dreadful! There is lots of choice, yes, but trying to find something edible is very difficult. The breakfasts were nice, fresh made omelette was lovely, lots of pastries, cereal etc. However, main meals were awful. I ate cakes all week (which were lovely), but couldn’t eat anything else. Everyone was complaining about the food but I think the last couple of days it did improve slightly. We went into the Hard Rock Cafe which was nice. Also, the eateries in Soho square are meant to be very nice. Heard good reports about all of them. The drinks are good, the gin, vodka etc tasted good, sometimes with all inclusive it can be horrid, but these were nice. Try the Sinai Special cocktail – lovely! The entertainment was pretty dire – a russian singer most nights – and even if you go down to soho square, its the same people, but we went just to relax. Younger people went into Naama Bay where there were loads of clubs and bars, but I don’t know how they afford it.

The location was nice, at first I thought we were very out of the way, but the surrounding SOHO square was nice, with lots of eateries a couple of bars, ice rink and bowling alley. I reckon in a few years this will just get bigger and bigger.

TIPS
Don’ t bother taking towels – they will provide you with them.
If you have long hair, take a hair dryer – the hotels are terrible.
DO NOT BUY DRINKS THAT ARE OFF ALL INCLUSIVE – 2 Malibu (no mixer) £20 – I’m not kidding!
Be very careful in the sun – it was 38 degrees a few days, mostly 35. Scorching hot. You will need a very high factor.
I tried Deet 50% and Avon Skin so Soft – still got a few bites but not too many. Some people were absolutley covered in bites.
Despite not eating much, I still ended up on day 5 with the dreaded “tummy bug”.
Barter Barter Barter, for everything, even the trips which are really expensive.
Don’t go swimming with the dolphins – extremely expensive, lovely, but not worth it. We paid a fortune for 15 minutes then had to sit for an hour through a DVD and the hard sell of pictures and I felt really guilty afterwards although the dolphins looked well looked after.
Go on a boat trip – snorkelling is fantastic – I am not a strong swimmer, but one of the divers chaperoned me and made sure I was ok, it was amazing seeing the fish – we even saw a turtle – but barter a price as they are quite quiet just now.
Be aware of prices – everything is really expensive.
Don’t buy at the airport £3 for a can of diet pepsi!

All in all the Sierra was really nice. My friend has been to Sharm loads of times and says this is the best hotel she;s been in (even better than the Savoy). A friendly hotel with a nice atmosphere. The animation team were nice and didn’t hark on if you didn’t want to join in (try the water aerobics though – it was a laugh although the Russian music will drive you mad by the end of the week (me and my friend were humming the tunes on the plane coming home)! Would definately go back to the Sierra – hopelfully the next time the food will have improved.
